Notes
Romantic memories of journey through 4-channelIn this electric age almost railroad carriers from town to town have been changed from all steam locomotives to electric trains. However, there is something in locomotives that cannot be enjoyed in the electric trains. It give us dream, romantic memory of journey and fantasy. This album is a collection of precious sound of the famous model D51 locomotives recorded live in 4channel at secluded country railways of Japan. The D51 is very popular with railway manias by the name of "D-GO-ICHY", and 1,115 locomotives of this model were manufactured between 1936 and 1945. However, at the end of 1972, we could count only 313 of this model in the rolls. Excepting Hokkaido and Kyushu, the most remarkable activities on this locomotive are seen on the Schuo Line and the Kansai Line. D-51 used on these lines are more powerful and heavier then the ones use daily on the other lines because of equipment specially designed for this mountainous lines. The equipment is a headgear fitted over the funnel which prevents smoke from invading the driver's room when running through tunnel.
