Notes
"Music as an ancient celebration connected with the flesh"Since the alternative music scene found its place in the 1990s, it is common practice for independent, experienced musicians to collaborate with each other in various ways. In the 1980s, however, the rock music scene consisted of bands as units, rather than of individuals. During this time, Chiko Hige of Friction and Kaoru Sato of EP-4 came together as individuals and a record was produced. This was an unexpected occurrence during an era in which such collaborations rarely occurred.
It is interesting to examine how these two individuals, from two separate bands that each represented that musical era, came to be connected in this way.
The recording took place in May, 1985. The song-writing began after Kaoru Sato communicated his concepts inspired by the poetry of Taro Tominaga (1901-1925), a poet who met death at a young age. Drawing from these concepts Chiko Hige created rhythm with drums and bass and Kaoru Sato layered sounds and noise on top. Chiko Hige’s saxophone mingled with theirs voices.
This cutting-edge album represents both international interaction and a creative connection between two individuals during the 80s, when bands were central to the music scene. And it is now that the highly imaginative sound succeeds in awakening a range of diverse concepts surrounding music.
Recorded in May 1985. Originally released in 1985.
